Reading Jornal #9

The book I am reading is Hot Water Music by Charles Bukowski. In this book there was particular quote that caught my attention it was like a poem

"Docks and Ducks and Derivative day
Ferment behind my Forehead
in a most unforgiving way
O, in a most unforgiving way.
I sway through the light and darkness..."

this quote was spoken by Valoff I don't really know what it means, and I need some help understanding. This book is really great and I recommend any to read it, it's really good.

Hi Benjamin!

I have no idea what Bukowski means by "docks and ducks and derivative day" but it feels like maybe he's talking about his mind beginning to slip, or decay, and he cannot forgive himself for that. "Ferment" makes me think of something that is growing worse with time - and then he finishes with "I sway through the light and darkness" like he can never decide if he is an angel or demon.

Make sure to include a clear question in your Reading Journal. :)
