Reading Jornal # 4

About the book

The book I chose to read was Running with Scissors. Running with Scissors is a memoir it was written by Augusten Burroughs . This book is about a boy named Augesten this book is about his life through the age of nine to seventeen. In the beginning of the book Augesten like to dress in his moms clothing and loves collecting shiny things. He lives with his Mother and Father in Massachusetts. His Dad is an Alcoholic and is a college professor. His Mom who is a poet but someday dreams to be included in the New Yorker, as well as he father she has problems too. She is a little psychotic. She starts seeing Dr. Finch mostly because of her dysfunctional relationship with her husband. Dr. Finch is a therapist. He has two daughters Natalie & Hope, and also takes care of Vicki, Neil, and later on Augusten. Later on Augusten and his mother move to Amherst to be closer to Dr. Finch. While Augusten’s mother has sessions with Dr, Finch Augusten becomes really close to the receptionists in the office Hope. Hope is the daughter of Dr. Finch. Later on Augusten and her mom become really close to Hope and Dr. Finch, they start making visits to their home. Augusten is forced to stay with Dr. Finch because of his safety from his father, while his mother is everywhere. Augesten writes in a journal for many hours a day. One of Dr. Finches adopted daughters Natalie becomes best friends with Augusten. Natalie is not the best influence on Augesten; she is very wild and quite crude. Another adopted kid is Neil Brookmen. He uses to be a patient of Dr. Finch until he adopted him. Neil is gay and so is Augesten which was discovered earlier in the book. Neil convinces Augusten into having his first sexual experience. Neil is way older than Augusten (I think twenty years.) and Neil starts to fall in love with Augusten, they had been having sex for many years until one day Neil leaves and doesn’t come back in the story. One day while Augusten skipped school he went to go visit his mother, he caught his mother in a sexual act with a women named Fern .Later in the book we discover that Dr. Finch is a very bad man for many reasons but the worst was he encourages Augusten and helps him drop out of High School when he is sixteen, he also gives and prescribes unnecessary medication to him, but hope encoueges Augusten to become a writer. While still living under Dr. Finch’s roof he eventually moves out and gets his own apartment He is attending a community college with Natalie. Natalie who has never been a good person does really well in school while Augusten is failing and drops out. Things do not get better when Augusten’s mother tells him that Dr. Finch had given her medication and had raped her. Dr. Finch wants Augustens mother to be hospitalized and get help. Dr. Finch wants Augusten to take his side. While Augusten believes her Mother he leaves. He stays at a motel for few days then gets his own place and is waiter at a steakhouse and begins working hard to move to New York.

My thoughts about the book

This is by far my favorite book. It's my favorite book. This book is amazing, I have read it about four times its the best book. The movie was great too but it is very different from the movie. The first thirty minutes goes by word per word but then it starts changing a lot. The book was indeed better than the movie. I highly recommend this book to anybody
