Reading Jornal

I know I've missed last weeks log, but Ive continued to read more of Bukowski. For the last three weeks I've been reading "Ham on Rye".The book is a narrative of Bukowski's childhood and young adulthood, through his autobiographical character Henry Chinaski. It begins with his earliest memory and throughout his life of being an outcast. The book Bukowski explains his early life and tells the story of how Bukowski became Bukowski.

The quote I chose was "I wasn't a misanthrope and I wasn't a misogynist but I liked being alone. It felt good to sit alone in a small space and smoke and drink. I had always been good company for myself."

I dont know what misanthrope means, i would like someone to tell me what it means. I really like this quote, because he likes being alone. I can relate to him always wanting to be alone. I really relate to him in many senses.

quote

“If you're losing your soul and you know it, then you've still got a soul left to lose”
Charles Bukowski I am reading a book of poetry and I looked for Bukowski. I found this quote an I feel like this means a lot it has a lot of meaning to it. I think it means if somthing bad is happening to you and you don't know it then you still have another chance yet you don't know that your loosing somwthing. I think I'm wrong but I really want someone to tell me what this quote means

More and more I'm starting to like Bukowski. I feel like he's just so honest about the books he writes, just recently I realized the I am growing older and older, my knowledge is expanding, I realized this when I finished reading Hot Water Music, when I finished reading this book I must say Im really scared to grow up. I finished this book on Sunday. I rather enjoyed this book with all it's details. In this quote I do not understand it at all I need help, someone to explain what the character Valoff meant when he is saying.

"...conditiond under the hump of valor
the ersatz imminent piddling rectangle is
no more than a gene 'in genoa
a quadruplet Quetzalcoatal
and the Chink cries bittersweet and barbaric
into her muff"

In this quote is kinda inappropriate, I really want to know what this means.

About the book

The book I chose to read was Running with Scissors. Running with Scissors is a memoir it was written by Augusten Burroughs . This book is about a boy named Augesten this book is about his life through the age of nine to seventeen. In the beginning of the book Augesten like to dress in his moms clothing and loves collecting shiny things. He lives with his Mother and Father in Massachusetts. His Dad is an Alcoholic and is a college professor. His Mom who is a poet but someday dreams to be included in the New Yorker, as well as he father she has problems too. She is a little psychotic. She starts seeing Dr. Finch mostly because of her dysfunctional relationship with her husband. Dr. Finch is a therapist. He has two daughters Natalie & Hope, and also takes care of Vicki, Neil, and later on Augusten. Later on Augusten and his mother move to Amherst to be closer to Dr. Finch. While Augusten’s mother has sessions with Dr, Finch Augusten becomes really close to the receptionists in the office Hope. Hope is the daughter of Dr. Finch. Later on Augusten and her mom become really close to Hope and Dr. Finch, they start making visits to their home. Augusten is forced to stay with Dr. Finch because of his safety from his father, while his mother is everywhere. Augesten writes in a journal for many hours a day. One of Dr. Finches adopted daughters Natalie becomes best friends with Augusten. Natalie is not the best influence on Augesten; she is very wild and quite crude. Another adopted kid is Neil Brookmen. He uses to be a patient of Dr. Finch until he adopted him. Neil is gay and so is Augesten which was discovered earlier in the book. Neil convinces Augusten into having his first sexual experience. Neil is way older than Augusten (I think twenty years.) and Neil starts to fall in love with Augusten, they had been having sex for many years until one day Neil leaves and doesn’t come back in the story. One day while Augusten skipped school he went to go visit his mother, he caught his mother in a sexual act with a women named Fern .Later in the book we discover that Dr. Finch is a very bad man for many reasons but the worst was he encourages Augusten and helps him drop out of High School when he is sixteen, he also gives and prescribes unnecessary medication to him, but hope encoueges Augusten to become a writer. While still living under Dr. Finch’s roof he eventually moves out and gets his own apartment He is attending a community college with Natalie. Natalie who has never been a good person does really well in school while Augusten is failing and drops out. Things do not get better when Augusten’s mother tells him that Dr. Finch had given her medication and had raped her. Dr. Finch wants Augustens mother to be hospitalized and get help. Dr. Finch wants Augusten to take his side. While Augusten believes her Mother he leaves. He stays at a motel for few days then gets his own place and is waiter at a steakhouse and begins working hard to move to New York.

My thoughts about the book

This is by far my favorite book. It's my favorite book. This book is amazing, I have read it about four times its the best book. The movie was great too but it is very different from the movie. The first thirty minutes goes by word per word but then it starts changing a lot. The book was indeed better than the movie. I highly recommend this book to anybody

About the book

About a month ago I re read the book Number the Stars by Louis Lowry. I read this book in sixth grade as a class I found my old copy in my room and started reading it again because I had forgotten what it was about. The narrator of this book was a ten year old girl named Annemarie Johansen in the beginning of the story Annie, her younger sister Kristi and her friend Ellen were racing to get home from school at once two German soldiers stop them and warn them not to run around. Already from the first chapter it explains the dynamics of what’s going on. The story becomes more exciting in the next chapters, more things start happening like Mrs. Hirsch (A Jewish lady) store got closed down .The time setting is during World War II and in the story they are living in Denmark. Annie goes through many obstacles. Many of these obstacles include Annie to hide from the German soldiers, or she feels like she’s “Little Red Riding Hood “when she goes to deliver a message and she feels like the Wolf are the German soldiers. Many things were happening to Jewish people and Ellen and her family was one of them. Annie’s mother Mrs. Johanson is determined to keep Annie, Helen and her family safe. An important character in this story is Peter Neilson, Peter was married to Annie's older sister who died years before this happened in a car accident. Annie’s considers him as her brother. He is the person that helps The Rosen's (Ellen’s Family) the most by getting them to safety. He is my favorite character.

My thoughts about the book

When I read this book in sixth grade with my class I didn’t care for it at all. Now that I read it by myself I really enjoyed it. This book is pretty good. The best thing I like about this book is how it is very nerve wrecking. I love how this book is very addicting to read. My favorite character in the book is Peter, because he was so brave and so caring to get the Rosen’s to safety. I’m glad I re read this book. Most people have read this book but if you haven’t I recommend it. It's a good book very easy to read, I read it in two days I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it.
