Reading Jornal

I know I've missed last weeks log, but Ive continued to read more of Bukowski. For the last three weeks I've been reading "Ham on Rye".The book is a narrative of Bukowski's childhood and young adulthood, through his autobiographical character Henry Chinaski. It begins with his earliest memory and throughout his life of being an outcast. The book Bukowski explains his early life and tells the story of how Bukowski became Bukowski.

The quote I chose was "I wasn't a misanthrope and I wasn't a misogynist but I liked being alone. It felt good to sit alone in a small space and smoke and drink. I had always been good company for myself."

I dont know what misanthrope means, i would like someone to tell me what it means. I really like this quote, because he likes being alone. I can relate to him always wanting to be alone. I really relate to him in many senses.
