About the book

The book I chose to do a reading journal on is "The Miracle Worker " the Helen Keller story. This book was written ( I think in the 30's) by William Gibson. The book is about Helen Keller a seven year old girl who is mute, death, and blind. She is in dyer need of help, she is crazy and out of control, Helen's parents Captain Keller and his wife Kate Keller cant
control her either. They find themselves helpless because the can not help her own daughter. But one day Kate calls an institution the Perkins Institute. She explains to the person in charge what her daughter is going through. The institution chose Anne Sullivan for the job. She has experience in the field and later she explains that she was in asylum. When Anne arrives to the Keller's house she right away starts helping Helen for a many weeks she try's helping her sometimes the days go great Helen eventually knew how to use a spoon and some days it went horribly when Helen hit Anne with a doll and knocks her tooth out. Eventually in the end Anne helps Helen reaches to her heart and Helen learns a lot in the end.

My thoughts about the book

Well over all this book is a classic I really enjoyed reading this book. I often find books like this rather boring but This book had a lot of meaning to it. To me this book was about knowledge and how you can expand that knowledge to find your self. This book is quite amazing and I reccomend it to anyone who reads this blog.

Reading Jornal # 2

About the book

A couple of weeks ago I read The Perks of being a Wallflower written in the 90's by Stephen Chbosky. The book is written in a letter format. This books touches on many serious topics that a some teenagers go through in there live. This book isn't suitable for kids and is very inappropriate. The narrator is a freshman in high school named Charlie, Charlie is a very intelligent high school student, he is very mature for his age as well but he is very emotional which can bring him down. The book starts off by his really good friend (from middle school) Michael committing suicide. It also starts off by being the beginning of high school and lots of things have changed for example his friend Susan that he use to hold hands at football games with became more attractive and hardly talks to Charlie anymore, Charlie feels like he’s a reject at school and doesn't have a lot a friends.
Charles family consists on his Father, his mother, his older brother, his sister, and his aunt Helen who later dies on Charles birthday. Both Charlie's Mother and Father want the best for their kids they were both abused as kids and don't hit, but are very strict only because they want the best for their kids. His older brother who is in college is very smart and talented for his scholarship in football. Charles’s sister gets in trouble a lot and Charlie always helps her get out of it. She gets in trouble with lots of her boyfriends, later in the book she gets beaten by one of them and Charlie tells his favorite teacher he feels close to Bill. Bill is Charles English teacher and loves giving him books to read. Charlie feels close to him because Bill consoled him when Charlie told him that his sister was getting beaten by her boyfriend. He gives Charlie great books to read such as the Fountainhead, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Catcher in the Rye and many others. Bill is my favorite character in this book. Charlie's best friend he meets later on in the book is Patrick. Patrick is a senior at his school, later Charlie finds out that he's gay and his boyfriend Brad who is the football quarterback who’s in the closet only feels comfortable being together only at parties. Patrick's has a step sister is named Sam. Sam is also a senior and Charlie is madly in love with Sam, Charlie considers her to be one of his closest friends later in the book Charlie receives a kiss from Sam (which was his first kiss.). Sam has a boyfriend named Craig who is in Collage; late Sam finds out that he’s been cheating on her many times. Sam's best friend Mary Elizabeth is very clever and outspoken she ends up dating Charlie but it doesn't work because Charlie is in love with her best friend. After Charlie and Mary break up she ends up dating Craig’s friend Peter. The Character I strongly dislike is Bob who is Charles drug dealer. Bob is hasa friendly attitude but is very tricky, which is something I dislike in a person.

My Thoughts about the book.

The Perks of being a Wallflower is by far the most interesting book Ive ever read. I love this book for many reasons but the biggest is that these amazing kids are my age. Although I cant relate to most of them It is interesting to read about Charlie and his Freshman year. It amazes me that this book reaches so many different topics like drugs, sexuality and those awkward times being a teenager. I also like how the book was written in a letter, and you can see how much Charlie changes through out the book. I recommended this book to all my friends, and whoever is reading this blog I highly recommend this book.
